I would recommend you change the way you bottle feed him, which will remind him to open his mouth again. Remember, just like someone feeding you, forcing your mouth open will simply result in a tightly closed mouth. This is something your baby needs to do by himself.
When you bottle feed him, you touch the bottle nipple to his lips and wait for…[Read more]

Breasts are continuously making milk, and the more demand there is, the more supply there will be. Probably the first few times you did this, your son may have taken in a little less milk, but after a few days on the new routine, your breasts would have increased milk production at that time of day to account for the higher demand. Unless your son…[Read more]

Learning to let down milk for a pump is a learned response. It sounds so easy, just hook up the pump and away you go, but your body works hard to make that milk, and a pump is not nearly as dear to your heart as your little one. Some moms take a while to learn to let down to the pump. The first key ingredient is patience with your body. I can…[Read more]

When you pump 3 ounces, is it after feeds or in place of feeds? 3 ounces pumped is not a terrible amount at all actually. Your breasts should not be feeling overly hard at this stage, remember, soft breasts make milk at a faster rate than fuller harder breasts.
I wonder how well she is transferring milk? Have you had her assessed for tongue…[Read more]

I am sure things will improve. Remember that breastfeeding is all about that special time with your baby, so even if your baby is not latching, remember to take the time to tell your little one how wonderful they are, and how much you are enjoying spending the time with them.

About 6 to 8 pee’s in a day, some diapers will be heavier with larger pees or multiple pees. If you feel that your breasts are still full after he has nursed, give him 10 to 15 minutes before trying again, and spend some time actively engaging him during that time, so that he can be stimulated and hopefully he will settle down to nurse while…[Read more]

Ah, older curious babies who have learnt to be efficient at the breast and no longer nurse like newborns. Lots of mom’s have questions about this new stage of breastfeeding.
The good news is you don’t have to worry. Your baby is showing curiousness about the world around him, breastfeeding has become a tad boring for him, he is an expert in the…[Read more]

Nope, it is not too late.
Shields that pop off can be annoying. You could try taping it in place, some moms find that works well. When putting on a shield, you turn it almost inside out (at least half-way inside out) and then place it on the nipple and flip it back, so it sucks in a little of your breast tissue and creates a seal to help it stay…[Read more]

You can try hands on pumping to increase the amount of milk you pump. See this link for more information:

As for bottles, my personal favourite is the playtex…[Read more]

I guess my first question would be about what she can possibly be getting into her mouth. Babies at this age are starting to be a bit more mobile and anything they can get their hands on goes in their mouth. Could she be in an area where she can be ingesting some harder to digest items, such as leaves and hair? Perhaps a brave pet who loves her…[Read more]

Congratulations on the birth of your son. You must be so happy to have him almost home!
Yes, he can help increase your supply. Part of it will be somewhat easy, some parts will take more work on both your parts.
Do as much skin to skin as you can, this will help your milk making hormone levels increase and you will find you are able to increase…[Read more]

We don’t like to think about it, we don’t like to talk about it, but the truth is that sometimes things at birth don’t go well, and mom or baby might need resuscitation. Or maybe no one needed resuscitation, but

This is a tough one. It could be that he has just discovered this new game that he plays, maybe he likes that pop as the nipple gets pulled out of his mouth, then when he is tired of the game, he settles down to feed.
Or:
It could be that your letdown at the start of the feed is a bit too fast for him, you could try hand expressing through the…[Read more] -

If you are really struggling with this transition into parenting a baby, it might be worth speaking to your Dr to make sure you haven’t slipped into a postpartum mood disorder. While parenting is hard, it shouldn’t be so hard that you feel as if you aren’t coping.
